In My Own Words...
I grew up in Chicago as an influential member of the underground hip hop scene in the 1990's; participating in rap battles with artists like Twista, Rhymefest, Juice, and Shawnna when we were all still just teenagers hanging out at open mics. The style & rhythm of those lyrical sparring bouts had a huge (if not unintentional) influence on my writing style.
Growing up as a voracious reader, words and diction became 2nd nature; with my works being published in both high school and college journals... although I never truly had a passion to be a writer as a youth.
Becoming an avid traveler as I matured, I would spend my down-time reading classic novels like CATCHER IN THE RYE, THE OUTSIDERS, or TO KILL A MOCKINGBIRD.... and hating them! I thought they were boring at best, and uninsightful at the least, and I decided that I could do better. So I guess I became a writer to fill the void that I found in the material I read.
Consolidating all of the skills I possessed, I was bent on making my books a literary experience; so we began including musical soundtrack with the books. The music reinforces the book's theme, and it's an entertaining addition. .
